Oldest Woman in India to Deliver Twins

Its spring time for Alagappan and Brinda from Karnataka. In a major scientific breakthrough, fifty five year old Brinda delivered twin babies at the Aakash Fertility Centre and Hospital at Chennai on Monday morning. Dr Jeyarani Kamaraj, gynaecologist   and infertility specialist of repute, described the event as the first of its kind in India itself.

Dr Jeyarani disclosed that an incident of a 59 year old lady giving birth to twins have been reported from the USA. The case of Brinda is yet another proof of the effect of modern day medicine and scientific treatment, according to Dr Jeyarani.

"Brinda and husband Alagappan came to us in 2006 with broken hearts and lost hopes because even after twenty eight years of married life, she could not bear children. Brinda, an officer in the Indian Overseas Bank had attained menopause at the age of 45 and in normal circumstances it would have been quite difficult for her to conceive and bear a child," said Dr Jeyarani Kamaraj.

Dr Jeyarani said Alagappan had less number of sperms. "Our investigations proved that the infertility was because of the lack of sufficient number of sperms in Alagappan. We found Brinda's uterus quite good and healthy," said Dr Jeyarani.

The team of specialists under the leadership of Dr Jeyarani took this as a challenge. "We were sure that it is possible to bring smiles back to the faces of Brinda and Alagappan. "In November 2006 we got donor eggs since Brinda had   attained menopause. We used the sperms of Alagappan and an embryo was developed and transferred to Brinda by the Intra Cytoplasmic sperm Injection (ICSI) process," Dr Jeyarani explained.

Dr Jeyarani attributed the birth of twin babies to the Brinda-Alagappan couple as the result of the integration of modern medicine and scientific treatment. "The children were delivered by caesarean. Brinda and both the children are in the best of health and spirits," the doctor explained.

It is yet another scientific feat achieved by the doctor couple Dr Kamaraj and Dr Jeyarani Kamaraj. The Aakash Fertility Centre and Hospital in Chennai under their patronage have brought smiles back to the lives of thousands of couples through a number of advanced technology and treatments like Laser Assisted Hatching, Pre-implantation Genetic Diagnosis, Assisted Reproductive Technique (ART), Insemination, IVF, Micro Surgery for Tubular Repair and a host of other treatments.
